House Democrats have made public a fresh batch of what they described as "alarming" pictures from the property of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, featuring among others Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and former British royal Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
The first release of 19 photographs—a portion of which have been seen before—combined with another 70 released later on Friday constitute a minuscule portion of the nearly 100,000 images provided to the House oversight committee, which is looking into the behavior and associations of Epstein.
The shamed investor was a victim of an apparent self-inflicted death in a New York detention cell in 2019 after being accused of sex-trafficking crimes.
Among the prominent personalities shown in the initial batch are celebrities such as movie maker Woody Allen; Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates; and Richard Branson, originator of the Virgin business group.
Donald Trump is featured in three of the initial 19 images. In one, he is photographed with six women, whose faces are redacted.
The White House addressed the release in a statement, charging Democrats of selectively "cherry-picking" the images for political purposes and to "attempt to fabricate a false storyline."
"The Democrat hoax against President Trump has been time and again refuted," a White House spokesperson said, insisting that "the Trump administration has achieved more for Epstein's victims than Democrats ever have by frequently urging transparency, releasing numerous documents of documents, and calling for further investigations into Epstein's Democratic associates."
The images were released without context, but per a Democratic representative from California and ranking member of the investigative panel, they raise more questions about Epstein's connections to affluent people.
"Now is the occasion to end this White House cover-up and deliver justice to the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his influential associates," he said in a statement.
The disclosure of these documents coincides with the House panel proceeding with its probe into the affair.
