US Armed Forces Executes Deadly Strike in Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities

As stated by a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the US military carried out a lethal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were injured.”

Context and Prior Actions

The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, pledging to increase the military buildup.

Only on the previous day, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amidst Pressure

The administration has encountered increasing pressure to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of legal military action.

Although the administration has stated the campaign is about stopping drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider political objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the military campaign may be part of a strategy to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
