The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
