The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the official score of the same name, the second one released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
