The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
