Seamer Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for the English camp as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems when he left the field early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp indicated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and would spend time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have been without strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was dropped from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps with the ball, before adding 28 while batting among just a trio of teammates who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he resumed the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

However, at the end of that over, he sent down a slower ball to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

The English bowler was recalled for the Boxing Day Test following his omission of the third.
