President Trump Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Members to White House

Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.

He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Memorials across the state have been held in their memory.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president addressed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Support

Community members came together over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both they had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist public safety in Washington DC.

Remembering Beckstrom

“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always willing to support those in need.”

Memorial plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Measures and Government Adjustments

Officials have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The event led the administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of Afghan passports.

Condition of the Airman

Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor the governor mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told a news show that she planned to meet with the family.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” he informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
