Mikel Arteta Hails a More Dependable Squad and Acknowledges Kai Havertz Setback.

The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his side can continue to cope with injury setbacks after disclosing that forward Kai Havertz will not return for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The German forward has been absent for months due to knee surgery. Initially expected to be available earlier in December, the manager stated the player encountered a problem when stepping up his training and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”

“Our experience helped us build a team that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This development creates a dilemma for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is in contention post-recovery.

Fitness Doubts Remain

Further fitness issues affect defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to keep their places in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

The manager is convinced the substantial investment on new players during the summer has resulted in a more robust situation to deal with such unavailability.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

When asked if a larger pool of players was helping their league challenge, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, because this season has been worse in the attacking line, and now the situation with the backline,” he continued.

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to perform various functions if we are to fight at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Havertz

Commenting on the complication noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his keenness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, for me, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his nature. I watch him struggle being outside.”

“His fitness history is outstanding, he’s been always available, and I look forward to have him back around the team on the pitch because I think it’s going to be a huge lift.”
