Manchester City's manager Voices Remorse Over Camera Operator Altercation Following Loss to Magpies

The City boss confessed feeling "shame" following an exchange with a camera operator in the wake of the Citizens' loss at Newcastle this past weekend.

When the match concluded, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with match official Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," the manager remarked. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, looking back. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the operator. That's just me. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, without a doubt. Why I support my squad is clear – because from my experience to win the Premier League we need near-perfect totals, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it."

City's Position and Manager's Take

City are third and are seven behind the Gunners following their fourth loss of the season. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Mathematically, it’s possible to win everything."

Regarding his confrontation with Guimarães, the coach explained: "We have known Bruno for many years and post-match, even at the Etihad, we converse. Our paths always cross and we get along well. I enjoy it. I'm passionate, I like discussing and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach addressed his squad immediately after a game. "Not if you talk with respect like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he said, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, he was involved. Goodness, he was involved."

The team felt aggrieved that the officials did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle against Foden, while they also questioned if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Subsequent images indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Guardiola will take charge of his 100th Champions League game versus Leverkusen on Tuesday. "It’s quite good, it means that every season annually," he commented.
