Iran Reports Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the US has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
