Instructor Fatally Shot and 25 Girls Abducted in Gunbattle at Educational Institution in Nigeria

Violent incident at learning center
Schools in Nigeria's northern region have become frequent targets for militant organizations

Gun-wielding individuals have killed a teacher and kidnapped no fewer than 25 pupils in an raid targeting a educational institution for young women in the northwestern part of Nigeria, police reports indicate.

The criminal group breached the public educational institution for female students in Maga, Kebbi State at around 4 AM local time on the start of the week, officials stated.

The attackers "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a firefight" before scaling the perimeter fence and seizing the students from their living quarters, an official report indicated.

An educational worker was killed while trying to protect the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now being treated medically.

Observers recounted a considerable contingent of armed individuals, referred to locally as criminal elements, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to generate terror.

Community members told reporters that the gunmen subsequently marched a group of female students into nearby bushland.

The police said they had deployed "additional police tactical units, together with army members and community security teams" to the area.

A systematic finding and recovery effort is currently ongoing in nearby woodlands and believed flight corridors.

In the past few years, learning centers in northern Nigerian regions have increasingly been targeted for militant organizations, who frequently execute kidnappings to demand financial compensation or leverage deals with the government.

The assault in Kebbi State highlights the persistent security crisis afflicting the area, causing relatives in Maga in a situation of anxious fatigue as they anticipate and pray for their children's secure homecoming.

Security crisis in Nigeria's northern territories has intensified significantly in the last several months, with educational institutions bearing the brunt of the conflict.
