England Bowling Consultant Tim Southee Unsure on The Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's last Test match for New Zealand was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.
England fast-bowling advisor Southee is still working through what his involvement will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.
The ex- Kiwi pace bowler is expected to be available for the first Test due to his participation in the ILT20 competition, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.
The 36-year-old, 36, assumed a role as England's pace bowling advisor in the summer after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.
Commenting as the English squad for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was announced, Southee said of his availability: "We are still evaluating the situation at the present time.
"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."
England pace icon Stuart Broad had stated the Australia team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over what to expect during the series, which starts on November 21.
"I don't think there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," Southee remarked.
"The team's attention is squarely on our own objectives. In my opinion the quality of [the English] side that's going out to the host country is brilliant.
"It should be an absolute cracker, the Ashes. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
However, before the English team travel to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
