Britain Prepared to Utilize Immobilized Russia's Funds to Fund the Ukrainian Defense

The United Kingdom is prepared to move forward with employing the entire amount of immobilized Russia's holdings to aid the Ukrainian defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this coordinated action would escalate tension on Russian President Vladimir Putin and urge Moscow to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the initiative would be executed in close cooperation with the America.

UK sanctions have frozen over £25bn of Russia's assets since Moscow launched its comprehensive attack against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, previously, money allocated to Ukraine using Russia's assets had exclusively been sourced from gains and dividends earned on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and Germany were in agreement in their goal to push forward toward using the complete amount of the frozen Russian sovereign holdings to halt hostilities.

He noted that more sanctions in the coming days and weeks would apply more pressure on Russia.

This declaration is subsequent to European officials convened in Copenhagen recently to discuss utilizing immobilized Russian funds for a €140 billion credit to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, President Donald Trump encouraged Group of Seven partners to take or utilize frozen Russia's funds, based on media sources.

The worth of immobilized Russia's holdings in the European Union is assessed to be nearly €211bn.

The Russian government executed extensive aerial attacks all over Ukraine on Friday, causing power cuts in large parts of Kyiv, Kyiv, and multiple additional areas.

Two people were killed and a minimum of 20 people were wounded in the strike, authorities in Ukraine reported.

In a post on an online platform subsequent to the attack, Zelensky commented that the strategic strike aimed at public and utility structures.

"What's needed is not mere statements but decisive action - from the United States, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in providing air defence systems and applying penalties," he emphasized.

"Each restrictive measure undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a different message.

Also on Friday, Zelensky told the press he would press Sir Keir to enter the Purl program, under which alliance members buy military equipment from the US to give to the Ukrainian forces.

While commending the United Kingdom's consistent assistance for Ukraine, he noted it should send a clear signal that it would engage in the initiative, as well as apply additional restrictions on Russia.
