Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.

Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

This news arrives shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
